Review: Maybelline Blushed Nudes Eyeshadow Palette + Swatches

Hello Lovelies,

If you’ve seen some of my previous posts, then you know I had the amazing opportunity to go to BeautyCon! It was a blast, and there was a ton of freebies, like a huge sample bag we got with our tickets. And one of the things in the bag was something I would have never considered getting if it hadn’t been gifted to me! So here is my review of the Maybelline Blushed Nudes palette!

Product

When I initially saw this I was a bit disappointed because in general I don’t have the best of luck with drugstore shadows, especially not in palettes or matte colors. (there are some really great exceptions though!). I initially brushed it off but then when I was going through the bag deciding if I was going to pass anything along I decided to give this a try before I completely pushed it to the side – and I was very pleasantly surprised!

This palette is comprised of 12 shades with a single matte shade (which still has a small spattering of shimmer running through it, but I didn’t notice this until it was in full sunlight), while the rest have various levels of shimmer and sheen. The palette does lean to the rosy/taupe/cool side of shades. The entire palette is not a homerun as with most palettes, some shades are more pigmented/smoother than others, and you’ll see this through the swatches.

There is enough distinctions between colors so that the colors don’t just meld together, but I will say it doesn’t last that way through the whole day on my lids. Keep in mind I have very oily lids. But as the day goes on it does crease, even with a primer, and at the very end of the day (probably after 8 hours of wear) the colors have migrated enough to combine into a more singular color, still very pretty, but not as distinct as when I first applied it.

I don’t like how much shimmer is in this palette, I think it could have benefited from 2-3 matte shades, like a cream and a crease color at the very least. So for me this palette does not stand on it’s own, unless I want to compromise my makeup. When I need this I need to pull from other palettes or single shadows for a matte highlight at the very least.

Packaging

This palette is housed in a reflective rose gold rectangle compact with a small clear window in the top so you have see the shadows, this is both a pro and con. While you’re able to see all the shadows before you buy, I think it would have been worth it to have a mirror in the lid to make it more travel friendly. It has a plastic clip closure, and a small well inside to hold sponge tip applicators (I always discard these because I don’t use them and they frustrate me when I’m opening and closing the lid) There is also a small sticker on the back giving you ideas on how to create looks with the palette which I think is handy especially if you don’t know where to start.

Price

Since this is drugstore it is obviously very reasonable at about $10 for 9.6 grams of product. For reference the Urban Decay palettes are $54 (though they used to be way cheaper) for 15.6 grams.

Overall

I think this is a really good palette, and while I think there is room for improvement, for the price and quality it’s a good one and I suggest you pick this up if you like the colors and are in the market for a palette.

  1. I am looking into UD Naked, and I was instantly attracted to Naked 3. Unfortunately, blushed nudes doesn’t seem to be available where I’m from, but I’d love to read the comparison to get a better feel of how UD fares next to a drugstore brand. 🙂
